Those who steal, those who swear falsely, will be banished from the land.

Then he said to me, “This scroll contains the curse that is going out over the entire land. One side of the scroll says that those who steal will be banished from the land; the other side says that those who swear falsely will be banished from the land. And this is what the Lord of Heaven’s Armies says: I am sending this curse into the house of every thief and into the house of everyone who swears falsely using my name. And my curse will remain in that house and completely destroy it—even its timbers and stones.”

Reading this brought a sense of comfort to me in the light of the surge of fuel rising costs in the Philippines, and the unresolved flood control mess. How some public officials shamelessly lie, steal, and take advantage of the Filipino people. They will have their day of reckoning, if not in Philippine courts, before the divine court. They will be held accountable. While these verses and those of the chapter were directed to the land of Israel, this “symbolically extends to all places where God’s law is violated.”
