A King and Priest

Posted on August 6, 2026August 6, 2026 by D.S.

And say to him, ‘Thus says the Lord of hosts, “Behold, the man whose name is the Branch: for he shall branch out from his place, and he shall build the temple of the Lord. It is he who shall build the temple of the Lord and shall bear royal honor, and shall sit and rule on his throne. And there shall be a priest on his throne, and the counsel of peace shall be between them both.”’

Zechariah 6:12-13 (ESV)

Headspace and Heart space:

The verses give us a picture of the Messiah who is and will be both King (ruler) and Priest. And He alone is the One who is really able to be both and to function in both capacities seamlessly: “and the counsel of peace shall be between both.” The “two” (or “both” in other translations) is said to refer to the offices of king and priest, which in Christ are perfectly united. How amazing and how thankful am I that I do not only have a King but also a priest in Christ. 🙂
